Driving Directions

For those of you living along the Denver Front Range, a drive from the C-470/Hwy 285 interchange to our doorstep is only about 4 hours away. And for all of you who are tired of sitting in I-70 traffic, you are in for a scenic treat as you make your way to us!

From Denver, take highway 285 off C-470 South through Fairplay and past Buena Vista. Before entering Poncha Springs, you will take highway 50 West to Gunnison. In Gunnison, turn North on highway 135 to Crested Butte. Total trip time from C-470 and highway 285 is approximately 4 hours.

From Denver International Airport, take Pena Blvd to I-70 West. Take C-470 South to highway 285. Follow the direction above from Denver. Total trip time is 4 hours 45 minutes depending on Denver traffic.

From Colorado Springs, take highway 24 West to highway 285 South toward Poncha Springs. Before entering Poncha Springs, you will take highway 50 West to Gunnison. In Gunnison, turn North on highway 135 to Crested Butte. Total trip time is 3 hours 30 minutes.

From Aspen, take highway 82 West toward Carbondale. Head south on highway 133 South toward Paonia. Before entering Paonia, you will take Kebler Pass Road (County Hwy 12) East to Crested Butte. Please note: This route is not drivable in the winter. Also, most automated mapping software does not create an accurate route between Aspen and Crested Butte - If your route does NOT include either Paonia State Park or Buena Vista, your road is not drivable. Total trip time is 3 hours 30 minutes.

From Dallas, take highway 287 North to I-25 in New Mexico. Head north on I-25 to Walsenburg, where you will head West on highway 160 to Alamosa, Colorado. From Alamosa, take highway 285 North to Saguache and highway 114 North to highway 50. Head West on highway 50 to Gunnison. In Gunnison, take highway 135 North to Crested Butte. Total trip time is approximately 14 hours 15 minutes.

From Phoenix, follow I-17 to Flagstaff, then head north on highway 89 to highway 160 (East) to Durango. Take highway 550 North to Montrose, then take highway 50 East to Gunnison. In Gunnison, take highway 135 North to Crested Butte. Total trip time is approximately 10 hours 15 minutes.

Winter Road Closures

If you are planning on taking a different route to Crested Butte than those recomended above, please note that following the first big snow storm in the fall, many roads, such as Kebler Pass Road (County Hwy 12) are officially closed into Crested Butte. Cottonwood Pass Road (CR 306), from Buena Vista to the Taylor Park area, is also closed. These roads reopen with the spring thaw, usually in mid-May. For the rest of the winter, our only highway access is via the routes described above (except Aspen) via highway 50 (east-west through Gunnison), and then highway 135 north 30 miles to the end of the road in Crested Butte.

The Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport (GUC), the closest local airport, provides frequent and convenient jet service with United, American Airlines, Continental Airlines, and Delta. Daily commuter flights from Denver are available year-round from United Express Regional Jets.
